First and foremost, look for broccoli with tight florets, that don't misshape easily when squeezed and aren’t shedding very much.
Also keep an eye out for robust and sturdy stalks, which are another signal of fresh broccoli.
Look for vibrant green color up the stems, which should give way to a darker and duskier shade on the florets.
Avoid any florets that seem to have black, yellow, or miscolored spots.
Avoid any heads with a strong or unpleasant smell.
Broccoli does best in a humid environment, so try wrapping in a moist cloth or paper towel before storing in a plastic bag.
