How to choose the best:
Tomato

Touch

A word of warning: do not squeeze the tomato!

That will only damage it and cause it to break down, plus, it's not an especially good indicator of quality.

A better indicator of quality, is to look for a tomato that feels heavy for its size.

Look out for tomatoes with smooth taut, unwrinkled skins.

See

Look out for any yellow or green patches not he tomato, which could be indicators of low quality — unless, of course, you’re looking at heirlooms tomatoes, in which case: taste the rainbow!

Smell

Look out for a sweet smell from the tomatoes, which is a great sign iff a good tomato.
