A good plum is plump and firm, but not too hard. If it's hard, it's underripe, while mushy, means overripe.
Look for glossy, unbroken skin, and a consistent color, with a nice blush over top.
Keep an eye out for any bruises, major discolorations, or shriveled spots.
Give a good sniff: ripe plums have a nice floral smell. Too sweet or fermented might mean the plum is past its prime.
Once your plum is fully ripened, store it in the fridge for longest life.
If the plum needs to ripen it a bit more, you can leave it out for a day or two until its good and ready.
