The skin on the pod should be smooth, and taut, and the pod should feel firm, and not bend too much.
Look for a vibrant green color from tip-to-tip across the pod — although some varieties that have purple coloring too!
Avoid pods with many blemishes or brown spots.
Snow peas have a tough string on the edge of the shell that must be removed before eating — however, some varieties of sugar snap are stringless.
