How to choose the best:
Grapes

Touch

You're looking for nice firm bunch of grapes, with the fruit attached richly in a cluster, so avoid any that seem mushy, loose, or sticky at all.

See

Green stems are better than brown, a clear sign of freshness.

Look for a nice fine layer of light powdery color, especially on dark-colored grapes. This is called bloom, and its another good sign of freshness, and the thatvthe grapes haven't been overhandled.

Avoid any bunches with wilted or withered grapes on them.

Smell

Give a good sniff: too sweet or fermented might mean the grapes are past their prime.
