First and foremost: look for a squash thats heavy for its size. Thats going to be your single best sign of quality.
Past that, you’re looking for a really firm texture across the flesh of the gourd.
You’re looking for a dull colored skin, as a shiny appearance can be a sign of immaturity on the gourd.
Look for a nice mellow yellow across the squash’s exterior, without too many rough or scaly blemishes.
So long as its not cut open, definitely keep your squash out of the fridge, and it’ll keep perfectly at room temperature for a few weeks.
