A good peach is plump and firm, but not too hard. If it's hard, it's underripe, while mushy, means overripe.
Look for the characteristic fuzzy skin, in a vibrant yellow or orange color that will be covered (maybe even entirely) by a deep red blush.
Keep an eye out for any bruises, major discolorations, or shriveled spots.
Give a good sniff: ripe peaches have a nice floral smell. Too sweet or fermented might mean the peach is past its prime.
Once your peach is fully ripened, store it in the fridge for longest life.
If the peach needs to ripen it a bit more, you can leave it out for a day or two until its good and ready.
